I grew up in a largely Jewish community, one in which there
were very few, if any, Christians.
In high school, one of my best friends grew
in his Jewish faith and became Orthodox.
During his experience I asked him tons of
questions, mainly wondering what it was that was different for him
now versus the year before.
He shared that how his desire is to honor
God with his life.
This was new to me—I hadn’t ever met anyone
who wanted to honor God with his or her life before, and had no idea
what it looked like.
I began thinking more and more about this
God fellow, and after another few years I ended up meeting a
wonderful believer in college who introduced me to Jesus.
I rejected Him, though, thinking that I was
way smarter than religion.
After suffering through a series of trials,
a friend of mine, who had recently gotten saved, boldly declared
that I just needed to “get saved.”
Having no understanding of what that meant
at all, I sought the answer, first out of indignation, then out of a
real desire.
Finally, I began praying to God to show me
how to get to Him, whatever that meant.
This led to a somewhat strange prayer for
salvation led by a television preacher (yes, God used the television
to save me).
I love the Lord, am proud to be one of His
children, and can’t wait to see what the rest of His plan is for me!
He is so creative, so deep, and so
perfect! |
